The True Impact of Our Actions?

Although this blog is still very, very young, I’ve been trying to determine what would it be best for. While right now and for the foreseeable future it is just a platform for my opinions, hopefully one day it will transform into something more than that. Maybe one day it will help change the world. However, I don’t think that that’s something that can be accomplished without understanding the world, it’s delicate interactions, and just how much impact we play on others. Today I want to bring to attention just how many are being hurt by United States’ political and military strategy in Pakistan.

It is unfortunate that the American public is not exposed to more information about the humanitarian disaster that is occurring in Pakistan right now. Instead of giving air time to pundits who do nothing but sow division and hate among the population, we need a news outlet that provides just that.. NEWS. From around the world, preferably. According to an Saadia Tour, an assistant professor at Staten Island, who was interviewed by CollegeSocialistWorker.org, the recent offensive by the Pakistan military, with full support from the United States, is having a terrible impact on the civilian population. Close to 150,000 have been displaced already, and experts estimate that another 250,000 will be driven from their homes before it’s over.

If Healthy Citizenry is Socialism, the Majority of Us Are Probably Socialists

Does the world socialism even have a denotation anymore? It seems to me that the word no longer carries a meaning aside from its utility in ad hominum attacks. The word is hurled around a lot nowadays, often in seemingly oxymoronic statements, such as: ‘Obama is a socialist Nazi’. Although such a statement is utter nonsense for anyone with any knowledge of history, its usage in the contemporary political setting does provide some insight to the role of the public/social sector of the United States since the 1940’s.

National Socialism (often with reference to Nazism) refers to a political/economic policy opposed to capitalism, communism, and liberalism, elements all inherent in United State’s policies in the last 7 decades. The United States does not share with this ideology the belief in racial struggle/hyper-nationalism. It is obvious that United States is anti-communism, but many still consider the US as the epitome of capitalism, a fact I would strongly contend. The social sector is a huge part of our economy, our cutting-edge technological advancements, and the rise of our country as a global hegemony.

What About The End?

I was watching The Daily Show on Comedy Central tonight, where Janet Napolitano was the guest. I’m guessing she was there to promote the book, I don’t remember the exact details, but John Stewart asked her a question about Department of Homeland Security. Napolitano is the Secretary of Homeland Security under Obama. Stewart asked her if she foresees a future where her department can actually carry out the kinds of conspiracies that they get accused of. However, I thought he asked her a different question, and I haven’t been able to get that question out of my head.

Do you foresee a time in our future where we DO NOT need the Department of Homeland Security. A point of time when terrorism isn’t going to be a threat anymore.. or will some form of conflict always be with us. That led me to ask the next question.. will there ever be a time in our future where we do not need the CIA? When we do not need a military.. when we do not really need United States..

The United States, like every other nation in this world, is a union among men. That means that just like men, our she is not eternal. She had a definitive beginning, over two centuries ago.. And you know what that means.. Anything with a beginning has an end. When will our country end? Every other empire in the world, no matter how large and influential, declined and in most cases ceased to exist. Is that a path that awaits us?

I asked my roommates what they thought the end of United States will be a result of. Sean said nuclear war, and Eric said it would be an economical collapse. But I can’t help but disagree with them. When I think about the end of US, I don’t see a negative ending. I think we will be the first empire in human history (We have so so much potential!) that can come to the end of the reign gracefully and positively for the rest of the world. Our decline can be a boon to humanity. We can be the second to last human empire – the next one can be the one that unites mankind world wide.

Star Trek definitively has a right idea.
